Spring Hill’s Moorer Branch Library Slated for New Roof

Mobile, AL – The Monte L. Moorer Branch of the Mobile Public Library, located in Spring Hill, is slated to get a new roof following approval of a contract for the work. The City Council will take up the contract at tomorrow’s meeting.

The roof, which has not been replaced since the 1980s, has been repaired as needed, but significant drainage issues and a mildew smell have been an ongoing concern. The new roof will alleviate these issues by moving existing drains from inside the building to outside.

“Our public libraries are key to our communities,’ said Council President Gina Gregory. “Citizens should be able to look forward to spending time there, not having to deal with issues like these.”

Part of the contract for the work will be funded through Gregory’s Capital Improvement Plan fund.

Library Director Scott Kinney said, "We appreciate Council President Gregory and the rest of the Council for recognizing the importance of maintaining quality libraries throughout the city."

“Once the roof is repaired, we will be looking towards some needed interior renovations as well,” said Gregory.

The proposed contract for the roof work is for $315,000.00 with All-South Subcontractors.
