Councilman Levon Manzie Earns ‘Certified Municipal Official’ Designation

Councilman Levon Manzie officially received the professional designation of Certified Municipal Official at a ceremony yesterday afternoon in Montgomery. The Councilman is a member of the 21st graduating class of Certified Municipal Officials having completed 40 hours of training coordinated by the Alabama League of Municipalities.

“I am honored to have earned this designation and be a part of this wonderful class of public servants,” said Councilman Manzie. “I have no doubt this extensive training will be of great value in service to my constituents in District 2 and the city of Mobile.”

The training program for elected municipal officials was created in 1994 by the Alabama League of Municipalities, under the directions of its Executive Committee, to complete the cycle of training for municipal officials and employees. The Executive Committee instituted a series of one-day continuing education programs designed for Mayors and Councilmembers who voluntarily wish to receive training in municipal government.

At the organization’s statewide and regional educational conferences, Councilman Manzie received formal classroom training in subjects such as council meeting procedures, parliamentary procedure, the Open Meetings Act, public records, ordinance drafting, conflicts of interest, the State Ethics Law, duties of the Mayor and Council, tort liability, the competitive bid law, zoning and planning, annexation, municipal regulatory powers, municipal revenues and expenditures, personnel actions and leadership development.
