PROUD TO REPRESENT DISTRICT III

TALKIN’ TRASH

Representing District III for the last 15 1/2 years has given my family and me a deep sense of pride and satisfaction for thetrust you have placed in me. I have not taken that trust lightly. I continue to work diligently to reduce the crime, blight and other activities that tear at the very fabric of our District and the entire city. We as a community have made enormous strides in improving the quality of life of our residents. I have driven, walked and visited with residents, business people and church groups through out our District and find that community spirit and pride is at an all time high. I have been successful in closing establishments that were public nuisances and did not operate in the best interest of our community or were havens for other types of illicit or illegal activities. We have welcomed new businesses and residents with open arms and embraced their help in improving the growth and development of our neighborhoods.

It has been my pleasure to serve as City Council President for the last eight years and have endeavored to represent District III as well as all the good citizens of Mobile with a strong voice of proven leadership, integrity and vision. We face many challenges as we move into the new millennium and I will continue to help lead our District and City with the same strong voice of enthusiasm, pride and leadership that I have shown in the past.

Items and projects that have made a difference and helped "KEEP THE PROGRESS GOING" are:

  • The beautification of D.I.P. with our "Parkway Pride" project.
  • Removal of substandard housing and increased police and litter patrol units to catch and prosecute the law breakers of our city ordinances and laws.
  • Provided where allowable and as money permitted SPEED BUMPS on those thoroughfares that speeding endangered the lives and welfare of our residents.
  • Worked closely with the Crime Prevention Unit of M.P.D. to help our district in the fight against crime in the neighborhoods.
  • Worked diligently on environmental issues that effect our community by completing and initiating new drainage projects that impact our community every time heavy rains deluge our area.
  • Approval of a new fishing pier at a cost of $3,500,000. that will be enjoyed by all the citizens of Mobile and that will be instrumental in helping to bring new business into the D.I.P. area.
  • Finished the Clinton L. Johnson Economic Development Center ~ Cost $2,400,000.
  • New Pier in District III ~ Cost $3,500.000.
  • Renovation of Harmon Recreational Center ~ Cost $1,400,000.

It is a fact that community groups/associations help direct the progress of our neighborhoods and city. Working together as a team, community and government can and will improve the quality of life we wish to enjoy. As your Councilman, I will continue to seek your help, guidance and involvement which is absolutely critical if we wish to help our city grow and develop to its full potential.

We must continue the GRASS ROOTS efforts and input that has moved our city forward and will help us in the strategic planning of our city’s growth and development. One of the main reasons for this newsletter, is to get everyone in District III to be a part of the progress our city can enjoy not part of the problem that will hold us back.

We have spent millions of dollars in District III on the numerous improvements and projects which included road improvements throughout the entire district.
