FIRE EXPLORERS
The Exploring Program of Boy Scouts of America is intended to introduce youth to a career in a chosen field, while at the same time building skills and developing traits that will serve them in any career path.

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Explorer Post 318 is a career development program, aimed at the fire service, sponsored by the City of Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. The Post is comprised of male and female adolescents aging between 14 and 19 years old who assist the Fire Department in community service and on fire scenes. This is a strictly volunteer program and participants are not paid to participate.
The youth that participate in the Mobile Fire-Rescue Explorer Post get a behind-the-scenes view of fire and emergency services work by riding along with firefighters and firemedics on the job and are actually involved in minor fire scene work, such as retrieving equipment off the fire apparatus for the fire crews.
The variety of activities and challenges are intended to build character and discipline. A shortened list of some of the skills they learn would include team building, public speaking, leadership, conflict resolution and problem-solving.
All explorers who have not yet graduated from high school are required to be in school and are expected to maintain a "C" average while in school and may be required to show proof to the Post Advisor. Any explorer who fails a subject in a quarter may be subject to being placed on probation. Any explorer who quits or is expelled from school shall likewise be expelled from the Exploring program.
The Fire Explorer program allows students to gain a better understanding of the Fire Service and its career opportunities and provides valuable support to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department.
Fire Explorers complete a training program to learn about the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department and to prepare themselves for a career in the Fire Service. Monthly meetings attended by the Explorers provide them with instructions in areas such as Fire Safety, Operations and Procedures, and Fire Tactics.
If you meet the requirements mentioned here and are interested in participating in the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Explorer program you can contact the Post Advisor, Captain Todd Norsworthy at 251-208-2867
