Don't Ignore It! Report It!
City of Mobile Announces Creation of Fraud Hotline
On November 18, 2005, the City of Mobile implemented a Fraud Hotline for the purposes of preventing and detecting illegal, unethical, or unsafe activity. With the establishment of the Fraud Hotline, entitled 'Don't Ignore It!' the City is taking a proactive position against fraud. The Hotline is an option for the City employees, contractors, vendors, citizens and the business community to report any illegal, unethical, or unsafe activity by City officials, employees, representatives or agents that causes harm to the CIty, its employees, vendors, or customers. Callers have the option to disclose their identity or remain anonymous.
The City has contracted with The Network, Inc. to provide this service. This firm provides 24-hour, seven day-a-week hotline services. In the event that you become aware of illegal, unethical, or unsafe activity, 'Don't Ignore It!' Here's what happens when you call:
- You are greeted by a professional Interviewer who documents the situation you detail. You DO NOT have to give your name, and your call is not recorded.
- The Interviewer assigns a report number to you and asks you to make one call back.
- The information is then relayed via e-mail to the City of Mobile's Fraud Hotline Committee comprised of representatives from the departments of Accounting, Legal, Urban Development, Safety, Inventory Control and Police. the City's Committee does not speak to the caller at any time unless the caller requests contact and indicates that to the Hotline Interviewer.
- using the report number and scheduled call back date given to you by the Interviewer, you call for the follow-up. You may be asked additional questions at that time.
That's all it takes to speak up. In just a few minutes, you've done your part to make our City a better place to work. The City of Mobile's Fraud hotline toll-free number is 1-800-957-3676. The Hotline is not intended as a substitute for speaking directly with the supervisor or calling the City's Action Center at 208-7999; it is simply an option that is always available if you want help but prefer not to give your name.
You can call 208-7407 if you have any questions about the program. So 'Don't Ignore It! Report It!' Call 1-800-957-3676 anonymously.
