Good evening,
It is 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 and I am writing to give you an update on the City of Mobile's efforts regarding COVID-19.
As of tonight, there have been 3,074 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mobile County, an increase of 37 since Monday.
We continue to see increasing numbers of infections, a sure sign that the virus is still spreading within our community. The biggest shift has been a sharp decrease in the number of positive cases at long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. At the same time, we are seeing a steady increase in "community transmission," or the spread of the virus from person-to-person.
This is preventable if we will all just follow the safety guidelines as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control:
- Keep a safe distance of at least 6 feet from others
- Wash your hands regularly
- Wear a mask when shopping or when in public places
- Clean any surfaces around you
Our city team is continuing to push forward on a variety of projects to improve the quality of life in Mobile.
One of the most significant projects is our effort to adopt a new zoning code that will implement the vision in the Map for Mobile. This complete overhaul, known as the Unified Development Code (UDC), addresses many issues important to you and reflects modern planning and zoning best practices.
