A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 23

Sep 23rd, 2020

Good evening,

It is 9:00 p.m. on September 23, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

This morning I attended the first Parks and Rec department all-staff meeting for the year. It was held at the Mike Dow Amphitheater at the Dotch Community Center, where everyone could gather and maintain social distance. There is great excitement surrounding continued progress and improvements in our City parks and recreation centers.

Later in the day I joined Councilman CJ Small to tour ongoing renovations at the SAIL Center on Dauphin Island Parkway. This center is receiving a new fitness center, computer lab, and multipurpose room. Councilman Small and I got to hear about new programming from the SAIL Center team and see the progress being made.

Additionally, we were given a tour of the Newhouse Park Teen Center just up the street from SAIL. This center has been repurposed to accommodate community teenagers with their own space for fellowship, learning, and resources. Both of these centers are improving the quality of life for the DIP community.

Today we visited these recreation centers on DIP, but similar capital improvement projects are happening all over the City. These projects are aimed at improving your quality of life and making Mobile more family friendly.

Sleep tight!
