A Message from Mayor Stimpson - September 25

Good evening,

It is 9:00 p.m. on September 25, and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

Today, the Mobile County Health Department reports 13,358 COVID-19 cases, an increase of 52 cases. To review the detailed report, click here

We are actively picking up debris and making good progress. We are still receiving new reports of trees falling in these days after the storm. Some trees may still be vulnerable to falling and causing damage. We are asking our citizens to be on the lookout for signs of vulnerable trees in the right of ways.

Here are a few key things to look for and consider:

  • Leaning Trees - look for mounding or exposed roots on the backside of the lean. Most trees cannot be straightened. Large leaning trees over targets should be removed.
  • Cracks - cracks often occur between the trunks of forked trees. Cracks indicate a partial tree failure and will require removal or professional evaluation.
  • Hangers - look up for broken limbs hanging or lodged in the canopy.
  • Split trees - loss of large branches of 30-50% of tree's total diameter will require removal or professional evaluation.

If you see a damaged tree that is in danger of falling, please call and report it to 311.

This is our last weekend to complete the Census. Wednesday is the very last day. Please ask everyone you come across if they have filled out the Census in the coming days.

It has been a productive week cleaning up our City. We will be focused on clearing debris in our neighborhoods and major corridors this weekend. Enjoy your weekend!

Sleep tight!
