Mobile celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month throughout July
Mobile, Ala. — The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) is hosting a variety of unique, family-friendly events throughout July to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of this special recognition for parks employees around the country. Launched by the National Recreation and Park Association in 1985, National Parks and Recreation Month celebrates parks professionals and the positive impact they have on the lives of tens of millions of people across the United States.
In celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month, the City of Mobile and MPRD are hosting dozens of events and activities throughout July designed to bring Mobilians together in our parks and shared spaces. This year’s theme is “Build Together, Play Together,” and that’s exactly what we want Mobilians to do in our parks.
“Parks and Recreation Month is about bringing Mobilians together in our parks, but it’s also about recognizing the incredible staff members that make Mobile’s parks so special,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “In 2024, there were 386,337 check-ins in our local parks, and that speaks to the incredible impact that MPRD and its staff have on Mobilians of all ages. We want you to come and celebrate with us next month—and every month. Let’s Build Together and Play Together!”
From sports and fitness activities to arts and educational programming, there is something for everyone at MPRD’s facilities. Some of next month’s highlighted events include:
Cardio Tennis Clinics A fast-paced tennis clinic designed to get your heart rate up while teaching fundamentals of the game. The Mobile Tennis Center will offer clinics at a discounted rate of $5 throughout July. Cardio Tennis runs every Tuesday and Thursday through July 28 from 5 to 6 p.m.
Kids Cycling Classic
Children 14 and under are invited to throw on their helmets and join friends and neighbors for a bicycle race at Langan Park on Saturday, July 12. In partnership with the Bay Riders Cycling Club, the Kids Cycling Classic is designed to get young Mobilians moving!
Dive-in Movies
If you want to enjoy the big screen and make a big splash, check out our Dive-in Movies. These free events offer a unique way to watch blockbuster films while cooling off from the summer heat. Dive into the fun on Saturday, July 12, and Saturday, July 26, at the Hillsdale Community Center Pool.
