Two major youth initiatives championed by Councilman Levon Manzie are moving forward after the Council’s unanimous budget vote yesterday afternoon. The projects, which will provide a summer program for youth in the Campground area and a city-wide youth employment and extracurricular activities program, were among the items to receive funding in the new budget.

“I’m so glad we were able to get this done for our youth,” said Councilman Manzie. “Our youth are and must continue to be a priority because their success is absolutely integral to the success of our communities and Mobile as a whole.”

After Councilman Manzie urged his colleagues and the administration to support funding for a program to improve access to key educational, extracurricular and employment programs for youth across the city, Mayor Stimpson announced the ‘Move Mobile’ project. The new budget allocates $200,000 in funding for the first year of the program.

The Councilman was also able to secure $35,000 for a summer program for youth in the Campground area that will be run by the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama.
