New Skateboard Ramp at Langan Municipal Park Officially Opened

Mobile, AL – The new skateboard ramp at Langan Municipal Park is installed and ready for skateboarders. This afternoon, City Council President Gina Gregory, Councilman John Williams along with Swan Cleveland and Robert Payne of the Sheet Metal Workers 441, officially opened the ‘half pipe’ to the public.

“We greatly appreciate the partnership with these organizations and all the hard work of the apprentices and the union’s leadership,” said Council President Gina Gregory, who is the member for District 7. “This is a great addition to Langan Park and I know it will get a lot of use by the community.”

The half pipe ramp was built by the union’s apprentices during their coursework and has been donated to the city by them.

“It was great that our apprentices were able to work on perfecting their craft while building something for our community,” said Robert Payne, business manager for the union. “I hope everyone enjoys it and has a good time skateboarding. “

The group of the apprentices built the ramp and spent the last week working on its installation. They, representatives from other organizations involved in the project and a group of local skateboarders joined the event.

Other organizations involved in the project include: Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding, IUPAT Local 779, Operating Engineers Local 653, Goram Air Conditioning Inc., Pascagoula Sheet Metal, Sherwin Williams and United Way of Southwest Alabama.
