Firefighter of the Month

Brad Cox

Jul 5th, 2018

In efforts to become an ISO-1 rated fire department - a feat that only a small percentage of the 44,000 national fire departments currently hold - Mobile Fire-Rescue has spent countless hours fine-tuning and polishing every detail of every function of the department, from inspecting 14,000 hydrants to combing through and updating records to purchasing brand new engines and opening a new fire station in Crichton. Included among the many tasks that fire department personnel have completed in 2018 are business pre-incident surveys, or "pre-plans." A regular, monthly goal for fire companies is to visit businesses within their area and conduct pre-incident surveys, compiling unique information about the business that may be useful in the event of a fire or rescue response. In just a few, short months, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies have completed approximately 9,300 business pre-plans.

The collected data is electronically stored and made available for future use by all companies and all shifts. Every now and then, however, gathering, storing, and accessing necessary data would prove challenging due to electrical, cellular, and/or technical problems with software and hardware.  Enter Firemedic Driver Brad Cox to the rescue! Driver Cox designed, developed, and implemented a simple, one-page document to resolve the Department's technical issues regarding business pre-plans. The system could easily be used by all company officers to gather required information (including a diagram of property), document all details of the visit, and transfer information from a hard copy to a digital file. According to District Chief John Young, "Driver Cox developed this system completely on his own, and since it has been utilized, it has proven to be an asset to our department."

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is proud to announce Firemedic Driver Brad Cox as the May 2018 Firefighter of the Month.
