Firefighter of the Month

Captain Sam Allen

Mar 29th, 2018

On April 1, 2017, Captain Sam Allen was assigned to The Grounds to check vendors for possible code enforcement issues at the Spring Fling event. While in the course of his code enforcement duties he was approached by an MPD Police Officer who stated there was a person in the crowd who needed medical attention. Sam contacted the assigned rescue crew and made his way through the large crowd to make contact with the patient and make a path for the prior to the rescue unit’s arrival.

Sam quickly decided that he needed to change roles because It soon started to get busy with many heat related calls, seizures and a possible stroke that would occur throughout the day. He set up Incident Command, assessed patients and coordinated requesting additional rescue units.

There were a total of fifteen medical related incidents that occurred not counting the code violations Sam managed but through it all he remained a professional, team player and accepted the challenge without hesitation.

Now, therefore, on behalf of all the citizens and with our sincere thanks, we are pleased to award Captain Sam Allen with the Firefighter of the Month award.
