Firefighter of the Month

Michael Westley, Jr Named December Firefighter of the Month

Jan 8th, 2021

Fire Service Driver Michael Westley began his career with Mobile Fire-Rescue as a Firefighter in July of 2010. Before coming to MFRD, Driver Westley was a District Chief for the Prichard Fire Department.

Almost immediately after promoting to Driver in 2015, Driver Westley assumed the role of Acting Captain on Engine 18 for more than 2 ½ years while the Captain was away on Military Leave. Throughout the long duration, Westley provided consistency, leadership, and mentorship for his crew on emergency scenes and in station life.

Driver Westley is a hardworking and dependable person, who willingly contributes his time and energy, often going out of his way to help his fellow firefighters. He has been a great teacher to young firefighters, a mentor to those looking to further their careers, and a friend to firefighters of all ages and all experience levels.

Driver Westley is also a member of MFRD’s PEER Support Team, a program designed to help personnel that need personal assistance in stress management and mental health wellness.

Throughout his years of service, Westley has been model of consistency when it comes to job performance. He, literally, shows fire service members how the job should be done.

The Firefighter of the Month Award not only represents what Driver Westley has accomplished as a career firefighter, but it also represents who he is as a man.  Driver Westley is a servant who is committed to the safety of our community.

Fire Chief Lami and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department proudly recognize Fire Service Driver Michael Westley, Jr. as the December 2020 Firefighter of the Month.
