12:07 a.m.—Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 9:36 p.m. for a report of a traffic accident with entrapment at the south end of Dauphin Island Parkway in Theodore, Alabama, Sunday night, March 10, 2024.
While enroute, District 2 called for Marine 20 and Fireboat 2 to respond. District 2 arrived on scene first, followed shortly by Engine 7 and Truck 10. Personnel were advised by a security guard who said he witnessed a car drive off the end of Dauphin Island Parkway and into the Middle Fork Deer River at a high rate of speed. The car reportedly floated to the west for a short while before becoming completely submerged at which point it was no longer visible.
Units conducted a shoreline search and noted signs of debris floating and on shore. When MFRD water units arrived, they conducted a hasty search using sonar. As of 11:59 p.m., Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Mobile Police Department were also on scene with divers from MPD preparing to enter the water. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units are still on scene at this time.
