Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 11:48 p.m. for a report of a residential fire in the 3100 block of Ridgeway Street in Mobile, Alabama, Sunday, March 3, 2024.
Units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke visible along the side of a 2-story, wood-frame residence, with flames present near the chimney. Personnel immediately began to search for anyone inside the structure and to extinguish flames.
Truck 17 found a resident at the rear of the structure on a balcony trying to extinguish the fire with a neighbor's hose. Crews used a ladder to rescue the man, who was able to descend the ladder. He was treated on scene by MFRD and transported to a hospital for evaluation.
The fire was completely extinguished, and salvage and overhaul operations were completed.
No personnel were injured in the incident. The fire cause was determined to be accidental. The fire spread through both stories but was contained to the area around the chimney.
