Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at 8:56 p.m. for a report of a residential fire in the 100 block of Union Avenue in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday night, April 3, 2024.
Units arrived on scene within three minutes to find heavy smoke coming from the front a single-story, wood-frame residence with a large family already evacuated.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and did primary and secondary searches to make sure no one was in the home. They remained on scene while the investigator gathered information and firefighters extinguished any remaining hotspots.
Districts 1 and 3 chiefs, Engines 12, 14, 3 and 23, Truck 17, Rescue 12 and Rehab 1 responded to the call.
The home suffered major damage from the fire. No one was injured in the incident. The investigation determined that it was an accidental cooking fire.
