Good evening,

It is 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31 and I am writing to give you an update from the City of Mobile.

As of tonight, there have been 8,190 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mobile County, an increase of 243 cases. According to the Mobile County Health Department, a total of 194 patients have died due to COVID-19. For a detailed look at today's data click here.

As new cases persist, it is imperative that we protect ourselves and remind others to follow these simple steps:

  • Wear a face covering when in public
  • Keep your hands clean
  • Avoid crowds and keep a safe distance from others
  • Stay home if you are sick

Last night I made a comment thanking those who are going above and beyond during these uncertain times. Maury Lyons and the Homtex Team visited our office this month and donated over 2,000 cloth and disposable masks. The masks will be shared with our City employees. Thank you again for your generous donation and we will be proud to wear these masks that were made here in the great State of Alabama!

As I close, our Parks and Recreation team along with Councilman Gina Gregory spent more than six months meeting with community stakeholders to begin a new vision for Langan Park.

Although we are in the initial stages, this collaborative effort has generated great ideas for future development. We will have more details coming soon.

I am excited about the future of Mobile. I hope you see and feel the momentum! Before you enjoy your weekend, take a look at the beginning of the vision for Langan Park.
