Mobile Tennis Center honoring Arthur Ashe with art and essay contests.

Saturday, August 24 is Arthur Ashe Kids Day, and the Mobile Tennis Center will be hosting kids tennis clinics at Lyons Park Tennis Center (180 Lyons Park Avenue) from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

As an extension of this celebration of the late professional tennis player, youth are invited to submit artwork, and one-page essays on the following topic and quote:

Ages 11-14: "Why Arthur Ashe is an American Hero"

Ages 15-18: "From What We Get, We Make a Living. What We Give, However, Makes a Life."

Art submissions should be on minimum 9.5 x 11 inch paper, and should include a portrait of Ashe in action or still. 1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded to each category of submissions.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 22. Art and essays can be dropped off at the Lyons Park Tennis Center or emailed to tennis@cityofmobile.org. Be sure to follow the Mobile Tennis Center on Facebook to stay up to date with all present and upcoming programs!
