MPRD will have four fully staffed pools open six days a week this summer. All MPRD lifeguards are tested and trained for a minimum of 26.5 hours to keep pool visitors safe. While pools are available to all Mobilians, proper swimwear is required. Infants and toddlers MUST wear a swim diaper.
All pool locations are free to use for the public. All outdoor pools are currently closed on Sundays and City Holidays.
Swim 1922 Water Safety Classes
This summer, MPRD is partnering with Sigma Gamma Rho sorority to offer a new course called Swim 1922. This swim safety program is taught across the country to help young people stay safe when swimming in pools, beaches, lakes, rivers, or anywhere there is water. Children ages 5 to 8 can participate for free! A full schedule is available at https://mprd.recdesk.com/Community/Program.
General Swimming Lessons
Children in the City of Mobile can enroll in swim classes, which will be offered from June 4 to July 25 in partnership with the Port City Marlins swim team. Level I lessons cover basics like floating, kicking, breathing, and basic stroke development. Level II builds on those techniques with additional strokes, breathing techniques, and more advanced goals for young swimmers. For more information about lessons, facilities and programs, contact Aquatics Manager Derrick Tinsley at (251) 436-9856.

Emergency Action Plan When an emergency occurs, the senior lifeguard will be responsible for carrying out the emergency action plan at their facility. The senior lifeguard determines if EMS (911) is needed. If EMS is needed, the senior lifeguard must ensure that the 911 call is made, that all necessary information (address, nature of incident, number of victims, and other pertinent details) is given to the dispatcher, and that EMS can readily locate the facility and scene of the emergency so advanced medical care can be provided as soon as possible.
Season Dates: May 27 - September 28
Hours of Operation: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
MPRD splash pads are an excellent way to cool off during the warm weather. Each splash pad has a safe, rubberized surface, with fun fountain and spray features that are wheelchair accessible. Proper swimwear is required to use the splash pad, and infants and toddlers MUST wear a swim diaper.
