Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org 19 FIREFIGHTERS PROMOTED AT MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE Mobile Fire Chief Stephen Dean announced Friday, October 17, 2003 the long awaited promotions of 19 members of the department to various positions within the department. Three (3) promotions were made to the level of District Fire Chief, eight (8) to the position of Captain and eight (8) to the position of Driver. Those promoted to District Fire Chief are Captain P. Randy Smith, Jr. a 16-year veteran of the department. Smith has been assigned to the Hazardous Material Response Team and will now be assigned as a Shift Supervisor in one of the 3 fire districts. Captain Doug D. Cooper an 18-year veteran of the department. Cooper has been assigned to the Training Academy and as an Instructor and one of the coordinators of Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) and will remain at the Training Academy as the Training Supervisor. Captain Johnny Morris a 13-year veteran of the department has been assigned as a company officer on an engine company. He will be assigned as a Shift Supervisor in one of the 3 fire districts. Those being promoted to the position of Captain are: J.G. Beatty, R.I. McKeown, E.L. Cross, J. Atchison, S.A. Hicks, M.E. Vautier, G.S. May, and E.A. Lyons. All will be assigned either as Company Level Supervisors or Staff positions. Those promoted to the position of Driver are: C.L. Williams, E.D. Creel, B.C. Orr, K.E. McLarty, P.D. Phillips, R. Broughton, J.P. Ballard and L.O. Williams. All will be assigned to either Fire or Rescue vehicles as the driver. All promotions will become effective Saturday, October 18, 2003. ###
