ARSON SUSPECTED IN HOUSE FIRE THAT INJURES OCCUPANT
Fire Investigators with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department are investigating a house fire that sent its occupant to the hospital. The fire occurred at 7180 Westchester Drive early this morning, Tuesday, August 19, 2003. The fire was reported at approximately 4:07 a.m. and when firefighters first arrived on the scene at approximately 4:16 a.m. they found the injured female occupant at a neighbors house. Firemedics began immediate treatment and transported her to the University of South Alabama Medical Center for further treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. The fire appears to have originated in the North West Bedroom of the single story, wood frame structure. There was some extension to the adjacent hallway with smoke and heat throughout. The occupant told Investigators that she awoke to the feeling of a "hot liquid" on her and discovered she and the bed were on fire. Fire Investigators found evidence to indicate that the fire may have been deliberately set. The investigation into the cause and who may have set the fire continues. The structure sustained approximately $15 thousand in damage. No other injuries were reported.
