3:54 p.m. — Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 11:42 a.m. for a residential fire in the area of Belsaw Ave and Pecan Street in Mobile, Alabama, Saturday morning, January 4, 2025.
Units arrived on scene to find the front and side of a single-story wood frame residence with fire visible.
Crews began to extinguish the fire and search for anyone inside. Residents had already evacuated and were treated on scene by paramedics. No others were found inside.
Initial findings indicate that the fire was set intentionally. A male witnessed fleeing the scene was detained by Mobile Police Department. After questioning, the suspect was arrested and charged with first degree arson. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Districts 1 and 3 Chiefs, Engines 3, 8, 9, and 14, Truck 4, Rescues 3 and 14, Car 80, and Rehab 1 were dispatched to the call. There were no reports of any firefighter injuries.
