Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched for a residential fire after a passerby called 911 to report smoke coming from a home in the 300 block of Byron Avenue East in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Engine 22 arrived on scene to find smoke visible from the single-story brick home. They immediately began fire suppression, establishing a water supply, and entering to finding the fire to extinguish it.
During a primary search, personnel were able to rescue a black lab from inside. Once the dog, Greta J, was brought outside, paramedics administered oxygen until caretakers were able to take the animal to the vet.
The call came in to dispatchers after a woman driving by said she noticed smoke while driving by that seemed a little off. She said she stopped to check on the situation and called 911.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
