FAMILY OF THREE ESCAPE FIRE WITH MINOR INJURIES
Firefighters were called out to a mobile home fire late Wednesday evening, February 27,located at 6400 block of Old Pascagoula Road. The call was received at approximately 11:24 p.m. and firefighters reported the trailer fully involved with fire upon arrival.
The family of three, a 25-year-old male, 22-year-old female and her 1-year-old son had escaped the fire but were suffering from minor smoke/toxic gas inhalation. MFRD Firemedics treated them on the scene and transported them to Springhill Medical Center where they were later discharged.
While extinguishing the fire firefighters found a dog that was deceased.
The male occupant told fire investigators he woke up to the smell of something “sweet” He turned on his cell phone light to find smoke in the bedroom. He, his girlfriend and her son escaped out through a bedroom window.
Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the bathroom and appears to have been caused by some sort of electrical malfunction. The occupant reported having some previous problems with the system.
The fire caused an estimated $25 thousand in damage to the structure and its contents.
Engines 6, 7, 28; truck 5; rescue 28 and District Chief Elbert Cross responded to the fire.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation.
