Nov 8th, 2011

November 8, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2011-83) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE EXPLORER FIRST NIGHT MEETING The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Explorer Post will host a First Night Meeting for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 and who have completed the eight grade, on Thursday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Post’s new Festival Centre classroom located in suite 197 next to Academy Sports. This meeting is a chance for interested young men and women to learn more about the Fire Explorers and join the program at the end of the night if interested. The Fire Explorers meet the second Thursday of the month at the Festival Centre, with additional drills and classes schedule throughout the month. When an Explorer turns 16 years of age they are eligible for the Ride-a-long program in which they are assigned to a fire station and Fire Captain at that station. The Fire Explorers also participate in an annual competition in the spring and annual training at the Alabama Fire College which includes live fire training. This program provides an excellent opportunity for young men and women to experience the Fire Service and upon graduation enter into the Fire Service just as so many Explorers before them have done. ###
