Fire in Closed Daycare Rules Accidental

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE IN CLOSED DAYCARE RULED ACCIDENTAL Firefighters responded to a fire in a closed daycare on Sunday night, January 22. The fire was reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. and firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the roof upon arrival at approximately 5:35 p.m. Once inside firefighters discovered fire in the attic of Teddy Bear Child Care. Firefighters were able to contain the fire in the attic preventing it from spreading to other parts of the structure. According to the owner the building has been closed while renovations were under way. The cause of the fire appears to be faulty electrical wiring located in the attic. Damage is estimated at approximately $25 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 9, 16, 20; truck 24; rescue 24 and District Chief John Young responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation. ###
