Fire Officials Promote Two

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE OFFICIALS PROMOTE TWO Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Officials promoted two firefighters to the position of Fire Inspector on Thursday morning, July 8, 2004. Those promoted were Eugene "Gene" F. Bennett, 45 and Rodrick "Rod" D. Shoots, 32. Bennett has been with the department over 7 years and Shoots has been with the department over 9 years. Fire Inspectors are responsible for performing inspectional and investigative tasks for the enforcement of the State and City fire prevention codes. Some of their duties include planning and carrying out routine inspections for fire prevention, inspecting new and existing business installations for hazardous materials, processes, equipment and practices; participates in the investigation of the cause of fires; checks building plans for compliance with the City fire code and determines requirements for fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire extinguishers and special storage requirements; and checks adequacy of exits and other facilities of public buildings for possible fire hazards.
