FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO FIRE AT 102 B BRADFORD AVENUE
Mobile firefighters responded to a fire in a one-story, wood frame duplex apartment located at 102 B Bradford Avenue this Thursday morning, February 6, 2003. The fire was reported by the occupants at approximately 8:02 a.m. First Mobile firefighters arrived at approximately 8:05 a.m. and reported heavy fire coming from the structure. The occupants Doris Alexander, 22; Joseph Johnson, 36 and Alina Alexander Johnson, 3 all escape without apparent injury. The fire appears to have originated in the living room near the front of the duplex and spread to the adjacent kitchen. There was heavy to moderate heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the structure. Apartment A of the structure suffered no damage. Also damaged in the fire were a 1992 Ford Thunderbird and 1989 Subaru. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears an overload of the electrical system could be the cause. Mobile Fire Investigators found a large number of electrical cords and wires in the area the fire appears to have started. Damage is estimated at $35 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 8, 3, 11, truck 17, rescue 23 and District 1 Chief Martin Stanley responded to the fire.
