Honor Guard to Participate in FDNY Memorial Services

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE HONOR GUARD TO PARTICIPATE IN NEW YORK MEMORIAL Eight members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Honor Guard will be departing on Friday, October 11, 2002 for New York City to participate in the planned Memorial Service for Firefighters that died at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Honor Guard members will depart at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2002 from Mobile Regional Airport on Northwest Airlines. The Memorial service will be held from Madison Square Gardens on Saturday, October 12, 2002 and will honor the 343 members of the FDNY who perished in the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center. FDNY will also honor nine other members of the department killed in the line of duty since FDNY's last memorial service held in October of 2000. Thousands of Firefighters from throughout the United States and Canada are expected to attend. Members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Honor Guard will have the honor of carrying flags for the services. Those members attending are: Captain LeAnn Tacon, Captain Joe Owens, Captain Brian Gilliland, Captain Robert Thornton; Public Safety Dispatcher Tracy Wilson; Firefighters D. Y Smith, Ron Broughton, and J.E. Spruill. ###
