Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE CHEROKEE STREET Fire dispatchers received a call at approximately 5:22 p.m. Friday afternoon, January 6, reporting smoke and flames coming from a house located at 600 Cherokee Street. Firefighters arrived within minutes reporting flames visible from the single story, wood frame structure. Firefighters were told that all occupants were out of the house and accounted for. Upon making entry into the structure firefighters discovered a fire in a bedroom and quickly extinguish the flames. Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the bedroom caused by faulty electrical wiring. Damage is estimated at $45 thousand. No injuries we're reported. Engines 8, 9, 16; truck 17; rescue 1 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation. ###
