Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE ON MARINE STREET Mobile firefighters responded to the report of smoke and flames coming from a vacant single story, wood frame house located at 459 Marine Street this morning, October 30. The call was received at approximately 11:45 a.m. and firefighters arrived shortly after reporting a fire on the exterior of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished without incident. Fire investigators determined the fire started in a reclining chair that sat a few feet from the house. The chair had a stack of clothes in it. The fire spread to the exterior wall with some minor smoke in the attic but no fire damage interior. Investigators suspect kids may have started the fire and are continuing to investigate. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $6 thousand. Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the Arson Hotline at 208-MFRD. Engines 2, 8, 11; truck 4; rescue 23 and District Chief John Young responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
