Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE ON WELWORTH STREET A house fire was reported from 865 Welworth Street early Monday morning, January 23 at approximately 3:25 a.m. Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the call reporting heavy smoke coming from the single-story, wood frame structure. Once firefighters made entry they discovered fire in the hallway and began extinguishing the fire. All three occupants, an elderly woman and her two sons, escaped without apparent injury. The fire appears to have originated in the bathroom and spread to the hallway. Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire at this time. Damage is estimated at approximately $45 thousand dollars. No injuries were reported. Engines 14, 15, 21; truck 10; rescue 14; District Chief John Young responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
