JUNE FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH
On Sunday, February 10, 2013, after working special events at the Joe Cain parade, Captain Cara McLarty was heading home when entering the Bankhead Tunnel she encountered a female walking in the tunnel heading east.
McLarty stopped to check on the female, who told her she had been left by her companions after the parade and was walking home to Daphne.
McLarty explained to the female the dangers of walking in the tunnel and told her to get in her vehicle that she would give her a ride home.
The female told her she couldn’t do that for she had no money, to which McLarty told her she didn’t need to worry about that.
McLarty delivered the stranded female home safely and without incident.
The Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club, who sponsors the Firefighter of the Month program, presented the honor this morning at the Spot of Tea.
