MOBILE FIRE CHIEF ELECTED TO INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS
Mobile Fire-Rescue Chief Stephen Dean has been elected to the Board of Directors as the 2nd Vice President of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). He was officially sworn into office this past week at the annual training conference held in Chicago, IL.
Dean, 59, has been with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department for over 38 years and serving as the Fire Chief since 1999
Dean holds a BPS degree in Fire Administration from Memphis State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Alabama.
Dean has also served as President of the Metropolitan “Metro” Fire Chiefs Association (2012-2013) and Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs (SEAFC) (2003-2004).
The IAFC Board of Directors develops broad objectives and goals for the association, including policies, programs and budgets. As the elected representatives of the membership, members of the Board of Directors are responsible for the business and affairs of the association not otherwise provided for between annual conferences.
The IAFC is one of the oldest professional associations in the United States, providing a forum for the fire and emergency service leaders to exchange ideas, develop professionally and uncover the latest products and services available to first responders since 1873.
Founded by fire chiefs wishing to find common solutions to common challenges in the wake of great conflagrations in Chicago and Boston, the association continues to carry on their spirit in their strategic goals: lead, educate and serve.
The IAFC represents the leadership of firefighters and emergency responders worldwide; a powerful network of nearly 12,000 fire chiefs, chief officers, company officers and aspiring fire and emergency service leaders who are the world's leading experts in firefighting, emergency medical services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, search and rescue, and public safety policy.
