MOTHER AND FOUR CHILDREN ESCAPE FIRE UNHARMED
A mother and her four children escaped a fire in their house, located at 6200 Hillview Road, this morning, Wednesday, February 27. Mobile Fire-Rescue received the 9-1-1 call at approximately 3:54 a.m. When firefighters arrived they discovered the family standing outside and encountered a fire in the bedroom of the single story, wood frame with brick veneer structure.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire preventing it from further spread.
The adult female occupant told fire investigators that she woke up to smoke and saw fire behind the dresser; she quickly got up and got herself and her four children out of the house.
The fire appears to have originated in the bedroom and was started by what appears to be and over heated electrical cord on a space heater. Fire was confined to the bedroom of origin.
Damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand. No injuries were reported.
Engines 6, 7, 28; truck 24; rescue 28 and District Chief Steve Zirlott responded.
