November 7, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2002-40) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org NEW FIRE TRUCK TO BE PRESENTED AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING Mobile Fire Chief Stephen Dean will present the newest addition to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department fire truck fleet on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the Mobile City Council meeting. The new 100 foot Aerial Platform (ladder truck) will be on display and presented to the Mobile City Council at the Government Plaza prior to the regular council meeting Tuesday. The new ladder truck was purchased from Sunbelt Apparatus in Fairhope, Alabama and manufactured by E-One in Ocala, Florida. The truck was made possible by an emergency purchase in September of this year, which was approved by the City Council at a cost of approximately $753 thousand. The new truck will replace the current ladder truck, built in 1975, located at Central Fire Station at 701 Saint Francis Street and will be given the designation of Truck 4. Central Fire Station and Truck 4 serve the downtown area. The truck is scheduled to be placed on duty later in the month once training of crews has been completed. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is also expecting delivery of six (6) new fire engines in December of this year or January 2003. ###
