Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at about 12:04 p.m. for a report of a residential fire in the 500 block of Newport Drive East in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Units arrived on scene to find smoke and flames visible from a single-story residence. Crews searched for victims inside the residence and none were found. They extinguished the fire, which caused substantial damage to parts of the structure.
An investigation determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. No firefighters were injured in the incident.
