ACCIDENTAL FIRE ON HOUSTON STREET
Mobile firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a reported house fire in the 1000 block of Houston Street, Monday afternoon, May 21.
The call was received at approximately 4:01 p.m. and firefighters arrived reporting heavy smoke coming from the single-story, wood frame structure.
Once inside the structure firefighters discovered fire in a rear bedroom and were able to quickly extinguish the same.
Fire Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical problem which caused a window unit air conditioner to over heat thus catching the wood window framing on fire.
Damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand.
No injuries were reported.
Engines 8, 9, 16; truck 24; rescue 24 and District Chief John Young responded.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation.
