APRIL FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH
On Wednesday morning, April 28, 2004, the Pleasant Valley Optimist Club honored Fire Inspector Wayne Schwartz as the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's April Firefighter of the Month. He was nominated because of the excellent job he has done for the City of Mobile and the difference he has made in the area of fire and life safety for the citizens of Mobile. Inspector Schwartz has consistently inspected more commercial places of business than any other inspector has.
Over the past couple of years, Schwartz was assigned several special tasks. One involved the handling of a complete investigation, which involved getting several statements from different area business owners and managers about a company that, was operating illegally within the City of Mobile. This case took a couple of months to gather the evidence and to get the correct people in front of a judge. Wayne did an excellent job of documenting the facts and the court prosecuted the parties involved.
Schwartz has been given other difficult tasks, which involved addressing problems dealing with an elected State Official. He handled it, as he does with all his assigned task, in a polite, courteous and professional manner.
According to his Supervisor, Wayne has been assigned certain special projects which involved handling or addressing certain fire and life safety code issues because he was confident that the job would be handled properly and there was no worry about how the situation would be addressed or the final outcome.
Inspector Schwartz has over 27 dedicated years with the department and will be officially retired Friday, April 30, 2004. His Supervisor, Assistant Fire Marshal William C. Sellers, nominated him. A picture of him can be found on the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department's web site.
