Building Fire on Dozier Place

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org BUILDING FIRE ON DOZIER PLACE Mobile Firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire early Tuesday morning, March 13, located at 742 Dozier Place. The fire was reported at approximately 2:38 a.m. and when firefighters arrived they reported heavy smoke showing from the 1-story masonry building. Once firefighters forced entry into the secured building they discovered fire in an interior room which had spread to a loft above and through the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly. The building was secured and had no utilities hooked to it and was being used to store vehicles to have body work and paint jobs performed on them. There were approximately six vehicles being stored inside at the time of the fire which received minor damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $30 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 8, 9, 16, 23; truck 17, 24; rescue 23 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
