FAMILY SUFFERS SECOND DEVASTATING FIRE IN THREE YEARS
For the second time in three years Dung Nguyen and Hanh Ngo have suffered a devastating fire in their home located at 1756 Augusta Drive, West. Firefighters were called to the home today, Tuesday, February 22. A call to 9-1-1 was received at approximately 10:10 a.m. and firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the single-story, wood frame, brick veneer residence. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The fire appears to have originated in the A/C/heating unit and was caused by a heater blower motor that burned out. The burned out motor caught the duct work on fire and spread throughout the attic. Damage is estimated at approximately $160 thousand. No injuries were reported.
The family had their first fire on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. That fire was reported at approximately 7:18 a.m. The fire caused an estimated $194 thousand in damage to the structure ands contents. That fire originated in a bedroom. The cause of that was never determined.
Engines 1, 18, 22; truck 5; rescue 1 and District Chief David Rose responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to offer assistance to the family.
