Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE AT WILLOW WOODS APARTMENTS An unattended pan of grease left heating on the stove was the cause of an apartment fire at Willow Woods Apartments located at 6951 Dickens Ferry Road, Friday, June 24. The call was received at approximately 3:12 p.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke coming from the attic. Fire damage was confined to the first floor apartment where the fire originated. Smoke from the vent hood traveled up to the attic. The occupant told fire investigators she placed a pan of grease on the stove top to heat up and got distracted, later discovering the fire in the kitchen. The fire caused an estimated $7,500 in damage to the apartment and its contents. No injuries were reported. Engines 1, 22, 26; truck 5; rescue 6 and acting District Chief, Captain Kenny Tillman responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation. ###
