Fire Damages Carport and Vehicles

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE CAUSES DAMAGE TO CARPORT AND VEHICLES Mobile Firefighters responded to a fire in the carport that adjoined to the main house, which also damaged five (5) vehicles, early Monday morning, January 13, 2003, located at 3670 Claridge Drive, North. The fire was reported by a passerby at approximately 1:33 a.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene at approximately 1:41 a.m. The fire appears to have originated in the carport of the 2-story, wood frame with brick veneer house and extended to (5) five vehicles parked in the carport and driveway. There was some fire and smoke damage to the main residence. The owner, Ron Jones, his wife, Mary, son, Ronnie and guest, Megan Lamey all escaped without apparent injury. Fire also destroyed five vehicles in the carport and driveway a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlas, 1991 Ford Mustang GT, 1960 Cadillac, 1993 Ford Escort and a 1993 Honda. Estimated damage is $50 thousand. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be suspicious in nature. No injuries were reported. Engines 12, 15, 18, 23, truck 10, rescue 18 and District 3 Chief John D.
