FIRE DAMAGES LOCAL PRINTING BUSINESS
Fire damaged a Printing business located at 2674 Government Boulevard on Tuesday night, January 28, 2003. A passerby at approximately 11:12 p.m. reported the fire and firefighters arrived at approximately 11:17 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the 1-story, masonry block building and requested a 2nd Alarm assignment. The fire appears to have originated on the north side of the building at the rear of Fast Forms Printing. The fire also caused moderate smoke damage to two other businesses in the building, Personal Touch Alterations and Shears of Glory Hair Salon. Both businesses had been in process of getting those spaces ready to move in and had no furnishings in them yet. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to have been accidental in nature. Damage is estimated at $35 thousand and no injuries were reported. The owner of the building Joyce Weaver. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units responding were 1st Alarm: Engines 9, 12, 23, truck 17, rescue 23 and Acting District 2 Chief Bryan Smith. 2nd Alarm: Engines 8, 19, truck 24, and District Chief Alex Trenier.
