FIRE SAFETY AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED
Mobile Fire-Rescue and Firehouse Subs will be presenting the award winners in the second annual “Check Your Smoke Detector” program held in area schools. The public school winner is Collier Elementary School and the private school winner is Saint Ignatius School.
The plaque presentation to Collier will be made during the schools PTO meeting Tuesday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. The school is located at 601 Snow Rd. North.
The plaque presentation to St. Ignatius will be made in the school’s gym on Friday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. The school is located at 3650 Spring Hill Avenue.
In addition to the winning schools receiving a plaque, each student will receive a meal card good at area Firehouse Subs Restaurants.
This year over 8 thousand families were reminded to check their smoke detectors. It is estimated, in an unscientific child survey, that approximately 800 (10%) smoke alarms now have new batteries.
Local Firehouse Subs Restaurants sponsor the safety program.
Winners are picked based on percentage of participation by students in each school. Each child is given a card to take home to perform certain fire safety tasks with their parents and signed by the parent and returned to the school.
