Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE FAMILY PETS Mobile firefighters rescued five cats from a house fire this afternoon Thursday, December 27, located at 2310 Taylor Ave. The call was received at approximately 12:11 p.m. and when firefighters arrived they reported heavy smoke coming from the single story, wood frame structure. Once inside firefighters discovered fire in the living room and quickly extinguished it without incident. Firemedics, who arrived first, rescued two of the cats and other arriving firefighters rescued the remaining three. Once outside firemedics, using donated oxygen mask designed for animals, gave the family pets oxygen. An adult female and her three children escaped without apparent injury. The occupant told fire investigators she saw fire behind a Christmas tree in the living room. Investigators discovered a power supply with multiple cords plugged into it and a hole in the floor where it sat. The fire is being ruled accidental caused by an electrical malfunction. Damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand. Engines 9, 12, 23; truck 17; rescue 23 and District Chief Alex Trenier responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention conducted the investigation. ###
