Oct 25th, 2011

October 25, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2011-75) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE AT 1201 PEABODY DRIVE Mobile firefighters responded to the report of a two-story house on fire located at 1201 Peabody Drive on Tuesday morning, October 25. The call was received at approximately 10:00 a.m. and firefighters arrived shortly after, reporting heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story, wood frame structure. A 17-year-old male occupant discovered the fire and escaped with apparent injury, calling 9-1-1 once outside. He told fire investigators that he missed the bus this morning and was asleep in another part of the house, other than his room, when something woke him up, afterwards he discovered the fire. The fire appears to have originated in the 17-year-olds bedroom. The cause is under investigation but appears that it was unintentional. Damage is estimated at approximately $50 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 15, 18, 22; truck 10; rescue 23 and District Chief Martin Stanley responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the cause. ###
