House Fire at South Cedar Street

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE AT SOUTH CEDAR STREET Firefighters responded to the report of a fire in a house with someone possibly trapped. The fire was located in the 700 block of South Cedar Street. The call was received at approximately 9:29 a.m. and firefighters arrived within minutes reporting heavy smoke coming from the single-story residence. Firefighters made entry and made an immediate search but found no one inside the structure. It was learned later that the occupant, who was suppose to be inside, had not returned home yet. Investigators determined the fire originated in the corner of the middle bedroom. The cause, which appears to be accidental, remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $50 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 2, 8, 11; truck 4; rescue 3 and District Chief John Young responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation. ###
