House Fire Causes Injury

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE CAUSES INJURY Mobile Firefighters responded to a house fire located at 304 Robbins Street early this Friday morning, January 17, 2003. Neighbors reported the fire at approximately 2:26 a.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 2:29 a.m. and reported heavy fire and smoke at the rear of the one-story, wood frame structure. Fire Captain Terry Kiser and Firefighter Cary Parker from Engine 14 made entry into the house first and discovered the occupant, who neighbors identified as Tony Earl, in a front bedroom suffering from smoke inhalation. Earl was immediately brought out to safety and transported by Rescue 14 to the University of South Alabama Medical Center (USAMC). Earl did not appear to have any burns. The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen near the stove and extended through the roof. There were varying degrees of smoke and heat damage throughout the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $30 thousand. No other injuries were reported. Engines 3, 8, 14, truck 17, rescue 3, 14 and District 1 Chief Alex Trenier responded to the call. ###
